Protect Your Privacy Using a Registered Office Service

Every limited company is required to have a registered office.  This is the official address of the company.  The address is supplied to Companies House and HM Revenue & Customs.  Importantly, this address is also publicly available.

In addition, the directors of the company are also required to provide a service address.  This is an address where they can be contacted.  This information is also publicly available for a fee.

It is therefore important to consider which address is provided to Companies House in each of these cases.  For many small businesses, using their home address may seem like the obvious choice.  However due to the public nature of this information, this may not be prudent for a number of reasons, including:

  1. If you have unhappy customers, they will be able to visit your home address to complain.  This could well be late at night or at weekends
  2. Most companies receive a significant amount of ‘junk mail’ at their registered office.
  3. If your business works with large organisations it can look unprofessional or send the message that you are very small.
  4. Your mortgage or rental agreement may prohibit you operating a business from home.

These issues can be avoided by using a registered office service. For more information on Wisteria’s registered office service, please contact the back office services team on 020 8429 9245.
